Run your own dinosaur theme park in Mesozoica

Mesozoica is a theme park tycoon game in which you must create and manage a park full of extinct dinosaurs. If that sounds familiar, you're not wrong: it's clear that Mesozoica is heavily influenced by the Jurassic Park and Jurassic World films.

Play in a prehistoric sandbox

Mesozoica's basic mechanics will be familiar to fans of the theme park genre. You acquire dinosaurs, lay out your park, and wait for the tourists to line up. You can acquire dinosaurs either by sending out dig teams to excavate fossils or by buying dinosaur DNA on the black market. While there's plenty of freedom to play around making your park, once you've created your management options are fairly limited, making even the simulation mode quite similar to the sandbox creative mode.

A sandbox, not a simulation

Mesozoica advertises itself as a park simulator in the vein of the Tycoon games, but its simulation lacks depth. Its real strength lies in its creative mode -- it's a lot of fun to build outlandish parks and stock them with giant prehistoric reptiles.

PROS

  • Engaging premise
  • Good range of dinosaur species
  • Varied attractions to add to your park
  • Plenty of creative freedom

CONS

  • Listless dinosaur AI
  • Limited park simulation gameplay
  • Clumsy, awkward user interface
  • Low challenge level
